2 September 2010
From the
Principal
Our value for term 3 is
Determination:
Determination is
all about working really hard
to achieve a goal
no matter how difficult or hard it seems to be.
Dear parents and caregivers
Well – spring is here! It is time to celebrate the welcome warmth
and the emergence of one of our most spectacular seasons in NZ.
There is evidence all around with the early spring growth, the flowers,
the trees coming into leaf and when you go a short way south or north
there are lambs everywhere. I am sure that your children would
enjoy a trip into Cornwall Park near Greenlane to see the newly born
lambs tearing around the place.
We have had a great week at school starting with the PTA meeting on
Monday night and a very enjoyable community meeting yesterday.
Thanks you to the parents who came to each of those meetings. It
was great to talk with you at yesterday’s community and we appreciated
you sharing your insights with us. Please contact the school
office if you would like a copy of the handout used at the workshop.
Great South Rd Carpark
We continue to have concerns about the dropping off and picking up of
children in the carpark. Our BoT has been in regular contact with
Manukau City Council to try to get something done urgently to make it
safer. Can you please park your car in a spare space then walk
over to both drop off and collect your children from the path leading
into school. Thank you for your consideration.
Cluster Art Exhibition
From next Tuesday to Thursday, you are welcome to view children’s art
from all the Papatoetoe schools at Papatoetoe North School. Art
works produced by students from our school will be included, as
usual. We have this exhibition once every 2 years and it is
always a showcase of the huge artistic talent in our area.
Year 6 Performing Arts: Thursday 9 September, 1.30pm
You are all welcome to come along next Thursday to the year 6 concert
in the hall. I am sure that you will enjoy it. All our
students in year 6 will be participating.
Have a terrific weekend – Let’s hope that the Warriors keep on
their winning way!
Kindest regards
Marilyn Gwilliam
Principal

Assembly Day: On Monday, 6 September, Room 09 will lead our
assembly. As always you are most welcome to attend but please
make sure that you are seated by 1.15pm.
Tips from the PCS Environment & Sustainability Team: There are a
number of simple steps we can all take to save water and power and
Reduce, Reuse and Recycle much of the waste that is produced in our
school and at home.
SECOND-HAND DOESN'T MEAN SECOND-BEST:
Consider buying items from
a second-hand store. Toys, bicycles, roller blades, and other age and
size-specific items are quickly outgrown. Second hand stores often sell
these items in excellent condition since they are used for such a short
period of time, and will sometimes buy them back when you no longer
need them.
Math Quiz: In a class there are 20 students. They are wearing
jerseys of 3 different colours – blue, green, and red. The class was
lined up in a way that the pattern of jerseys was: blue, blue, green,
green, red, blue, blue, green, green, red.. * What
colour jersey is the last child wearing? ___________
* How many students are wearing a red jersey?
