From
the Deputy Principal
Our value for term
3 is Determination:
Determination is
all about working really hard
to achieve a goal
no matter how difficult or hard it seems to be.
Dear parents and caregivers
Where have the first three weeks gone? While observing the
classes in action this week it is obvious the children are enjoying the
learning taking place in the classrooms. The classes are well
settled and moving on with their learning.
Parent/Student/Teacher conferences: Last night the school held
its parent teacher conference evening. It was great to see so
many parents and caregivers attend their child’s conference
evening. Not only was it an opportunity for parents to see where
their child is at in terms of their learning, but a good opportunity to
discuss the child’s next learning steps. Please take time to ask
your child how you can support them with their next learning
steps. Thank you to all parents and caregivers who attended the
parent teacher conferences.
If you were unable to make an appointment to meet your child’s teacher
on Wednesday’s Parent teacher conference please feel free to contact
the class teacher if you would like to discuss your child’s
progress.
PTA: Thank you again to the PTA team who organised another
sausage sizzle for the students at PCS. Thank you to all families
for your ongoing support with this event. The sausage sizzle was
a success and a real treat for students to have a warm lunch during our
cold season.
Milo Sport Awareness – Counties Manukau Sport: On Friday the 6th
and Monday the 9th we have members of Manukau sport working with our
year 1 to 4 classes promoting healthy living through physical
activities. We see this as another great opportunity to provide
education beyond the classroom for our junior school.
Year 6 Camp Fundraisers: Next Tuesday Room 27 will be hosting
camp stalls as part of the year 6 fundraisers for camp. This will
involve plenty of food, fun activities for your children to take part
in and prizes for them to win.
Chess: Yesterday they attended the school zones at Everglade
Primary School. Both teams dominated the tournament with team 1
coming 1st overall and team 2, 2nd overall. Congratulations to
all the students who took part and many thanks to Mrs Celia Talbot and
Mrs Gurmeet Baidwan for your involvement with the chess team and zone
day.
All the best for the weekend. The weather forecast is lousy so it
will be a great to spend time in front of the fire reading or watching
a dvd with the whanau. Go the Warriors - against the
Sharks. We are due for a win and may the All Blacks continue their
outstanding performance in the tri nation series!!
Kind regards
Pelu Leaupepetele

Tips from the PCS Environment & Sustainability Team: There
are a number of simple steps we can all take to save water and power
and Reduce, Reuse and Recycle much of the waste that is produced in our
school and at home.
SUPERMARKET PLASTIC BAGS:
They are not biodegradable and are
making their way into our oceans, and subsequently, the food chain. Buy
the stronger, reusable bags from your local Supermarket. They are
cheaper in the long run, will last for a long time and will help the
environment.
South Auckland Chess Competition: Yesterday, 20 of our pupils
represented our school at the South Auckland Chess Competition. There
were 24 teams in all representing 9 schools. Congratulations to Satnam
Singh, Joeli Filipo, Caleb Tere and Teiman Rhind (Team 1) who were
placed 1st and Brandon Aluese, Ashutosh Chaudhary, Euan Raill and
Avninder Gill (Team 2) who were placed 2nd. There were also some
outstanding individual results. Teiman Rhind won all 6 games. Satnam
Singh, Caleb Tere and Tony Van were undefeated winning 5 games and
drawing 1. All five teams finished in the top 16. Well done to all the
players who competed.
